Ionic Lodge #31 A.F. & A.M.

Welcome!

What is Freemasonry?

The late Charles C. Hunt came up with the following defintion:

"Freemasonry is an organized society of men symbolically
applying the principles of operative masonry and architecture
to the science and art of character building."

Another worthwhile quotation is from Brother Lionel J. Boxer, in Melbourne, Australia, as follows:

"Freemasonry is not a religion. Instead,
it accepts the love of God and his guidance
into the process of personal growth."

This quotation was found on the website for Pleasant River Lodge #163, located in Brownville, Maine, as follows:

"Freemasonry is one of the oldest secular fraternal societies. . .
[it] is a society of men concerned with moral and spiritual values.
Its members are taught its precepts by a series of ritual dramas, which
follow ancient forms and use stonemasons' customs and tools
as allegorical guides."

-from United Grand Lodge of England (1984)

This quotation was found on the website for Grand Lodge of Indiana -

Freemasonry is a charitable and educational society,
dedicated to morality, mutual aid, charity, leadership,
religious toleration and political freedom."
