Contact a local lodge, which you should be able to find in the phone book in the yellow pages under Fraternal Organizations. A "Freemason" Masonic Lodge is identified either by "A.F. & A.M." or by "F. & A.M." after the lodge name (it varies by state), which stands for (Ancient) Free and Accepted Masons.
Ask any person you know who is a Freemason; he should be able to answer any of your questions.
